Hiking & Biking Trails
The local parks at the Lake of the Ozarks offer some phenomenal hiking or biking experiences during the offseason. You'll get to experience the foliage and weather changes of all four seasons as you explore the sprawling Ozark hills. The Lake of the Ozarks State Park boasts an expansive 17,442 acres filled with hardwood forestry, sunny glades, peaceful springs and steams, as well as bluff-top views of the Lake. You should also check out Ha Ha Tonka State Park, which encompasses over 3,700 acres on the Niangua arm of the Lake of the Ozarks. Ha Ha Tonka holds over 15 miles of winding trails that will take you past some scenic wonders such as naturally formed caves, springs, sink-holes, and even a natural bridge leading to the Lake!
Cave Spelunking
Bridal Cave is located just off Old Hwy 5 in Camdenton, between Greenview and Camdenton. Bridal Cave is famous for hosting weddings, it's renowned geological formations and their history, as well as an astounding underground lake.
Ozark Caverns is located roughly eight miles east of Linn Creek, off route A. This cave holds the typical geological formations one would find in a cave, but something extraordinary happens in this cavern called "Angel Showers." A never-ending stream of water that pours from a solid rock ceiling.
Jacob's Cave is the largest cave in the Lake area, located between Gravois Mills and Versailles. It boasts nearly a mile-long guided tour through the cave, which stays at a constant 53 degrees. During the tour, which is fully handicap accessible, you'll see the largest geode in the world, "soda straws, stalactites, stalagmites, columns, and more natural formations.
Fishing
The fishing during the offseason is fantastic! The cooler temperatures result in the migration of fish as they seek sources of food around the Lake. Good fishing areas during this time of year include rocky banks, near docks, and the backs of creek flats. Anglers can expect to catch catfish, variations of bass, as well as some crappie, but we will say that the bass fishing in November is talked about around the country.
Ice Skating
Old Kinderhook boats the only outdoor ice skating rink at the Lake of the Ozarks. The ice rink is scheduled to open on November 26th. Here you can enjoy a wondrous ice skating experience with the entire family at this exclusive resort. Cozy fire pits line the outskirts of the rink, so when you're cold or getting hungry, warming up by the fire to roast some s'mores never puts you far from the action. If you're looking to make a stay of the evening, Old Kinderhook has an extraordinary restaurant, The Trophy Room, as well as top-class amenities and lodging.
Local Shop, Sweets, & Dining Treats
Historical Bagnell Dam Strip can offer visitors a sense of history and memorabilia as they peruse the strip lined with vintage candy stores, ice-cream parlors, arcades, gift shops, and much more. As time has progressed the strip has become home to several restaurants and bars as well, so there's something for everyone; the top of the strip being more kid-friendly, while the bottom-end holds more of the adult scene. A perfect balance is achieved to allow fun experiences for all.
The Camdenton Town Square is similar to the Bagnell Dam Strip in that it is jam-packed full of history and nostalgia, plus being one of the friendliest town squares at the Lake of the Ozarks. Just strolling along the square can provide the feeling of taking a walk down memory lane as you pass by vintage shops, historical markers, and midwestern hospitality.
Enchanting Light Displays
You can experience some awe-inspiring light displays at the one and only, Enchanted Village of Lights, the largest drive-through holiday light park in Mid-Missouri.
