LOWA: Fall Native Plant Sale

The Lake West Chamber of Commerce is proud to be a resource for the Lake of the Ozarks Watershed Alliance (LOWA)  and their Fall Native Plant Sale. This event is essential to the education of residence on the preservation and protection of the Lake of the Ozarks streams and watershed. Read below to learn more about Missouri's native perennials as well as the benefits they provide to the environment.

What is LOWA?

Lake of the OZARKS Watershed Alliance (LOWA) is an organization whose mission is to preserve, protect and improve the Lake of the Ozarks watershed, it's waters, and natural resources while maintaining economic, social, and environmental health. LOWA's efforts to do so include maintaining water quality, coordination of wastewater systems, lake/water safety, education, Low Impact Landscaping, and recycling.
There are plenty of neat ways to assist LOWA in their efforts. If you're interested in helping out check out their website to see how you can make a difference or volunteer at www.lowatershed.org.

What are Native Perennial Plants?

Perennials are plants that live for more than two years. This term distinguishes them from other, shorter-lived plants known as annuals and biennials.  Perennial plants are even further separated from other technical perennials due to their lack of woody growth from trees and shrubs.

Benefits of Native Perennial Plants

There are several benefits of having native perennial plants as well, aside from being beautiful, healthy, and hearty. Native perennial plants help manage stormwater runoff, require less maintenance, and provide wildlife habitats. These benefits help to reduce erosion and weathering effects on the landscape as well as being more self-sufficient than other plants that require more routine care.

PreOrder & Pickup

To ensure you get exactly what you are looking for LOWA is accepting Pre-Orders only at this time. Due to health concerns with the pandemic efforts are being made to maintain social distancing. Pre-orders must be placed via email to billington47@gmail.com or by phone to (573) 372-5168. The deadline for orders is September 24, 2020. The order total will be due at the time of pickup. Plants will be available for pickup on October 8, 2020, at the Laurie Terrace Mall at a time that will be assigned to you - that procedure will be emailed to you.

The Lake West Chamber of Commerce hopes that you can participate in this wonderful event that strives to protect and preserve the Lake of the Ozarks landscape and waterways. LOWA and the Lake West Chamber of Commerce are honored to be essential resources for the Lake of the Ozarks and the needs of our community and environment.
