The New Business "Normal"
There is a lot of talk about the "new normal" and what that might be for various businesses. While some places of business are eager to return to the way things were before, others are considering a new way of operating. The Lake West Chamber has long been a reliable business resource at the Lake of the Ozarks, and we are still here for you. Today we are talking about what your own "new normal" might look like and how to make it work for your business.
Working From Home
As social distancing and stay-at-home orders were enacted, many businesses were fortunate to be able to continue their work by moving to a work-from-home environment. Several businesses had to figure out how to do this overnight... Putting databases online, moving systems to web-based platforms, changing or installing email programs, and so much more. While this may not have been something many businesses would have considered before, working from home became a widely-practiced activity in just a few weeks' time.
As businesses re-open, many are considering keeping their workforce at home. While it was a change out of necessity at first, several businesses have realized that employees working from home are able to save money, spend more time with their families, pursue hobbies more readily, and even save the company money by limiting in-office resources. As you consider how to reopen your place of business, it may be a good idea to weigh the pros and cons of keeping your workforce at home. How could it benefit your business and your employees at the same time? Could it actually help boost your business in some ways?
Networking
While networking has changed somewhat, it hasn't completely gone away. Social hours may be postponed for now to help practice social distancing, but there are always ways to keep connected with your community and continue to grow your business. For example, joining the Lake West Chamber can help your business by listing you in the online directory. You will also be referred to the public by the Chamber - a right reserved for members.
Virtual Presence
Whether we wanted to or not, a lot of us had to get a lot better about using technology during this time. Without the ability to meet face-to-face, businesses had to get creative. Many started using video conferencing programs like Zoom and turned to social media to communicate rapidly with clients. There is a lot of confusion and stress surrounding the current situation, so it was important for businesses to get messaging out quickly and clearly. One of the best ways to do that is through social media. It's the new outlet for news and information for many Americans.
This is a great habit to keep as you move forward with your business. Keep an open and honest line of communication with your clients and potential customers by connecting with them through social media. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google My Business, Blogger... These are all good ways to help keep the public informed of your business and why they need you.
While these times have been challenging, they have also shown us how strong we are. The Lake of the Ozarks is a great community of people and businesses that we are proud to be a part of.
