It’s important to continue communicating with your customers so they know what is going on and what they can expect from your business during this time. Keep your website updated with new hours, new ways you are operating as a business, and any other information that is relevant to your customers and your industry.
Potential customers will check out your website and social media platforms before calling you. If there isn’t any new information on these pages, they may be confused and assume you are closed. Don’t leave empty space between you and your customers! Communicate with them. Not only will this help them during a confusing time when they don’t know what businesses are still available, but it will also help keep your name and brand in front of them during a time when a lot of businesses are not staying active.
This is a hot phrase right now, and for good reason! As people do their best to avoid crowds and prevent exposure to the virus, they are staying out of stores. Walking into a store can expose people to a lot of germs left there by other patrons. However, driving into a parking lot and accepting groceries, food pick-ups, and other pick-up items are all activities that are relatively low risk when it comes to being exposed to the virus. If at all possible, offer your products as curb-side pick-up. Follow in the steps of WalMart and accept orders online (or over the phone if online isn’t an option) for people to pick up in the parking lot. This is a great way to stay relevant to your customers and continue providing your important products.
If you are in an essential industry, it is important to help your employees stay healthy and protected from exposure. Whenever possible, it is best to allow your employees to work from home where they have a lower risk of getting exposed or exposing others. If this is not an option, then adopting stricter cleaning guidelines around the office will be very important. Be sure to use strong antibacterial and sanitizing products on all surfaces, particularly those that are frequently touched or that are shared among co-workers.
Remember, if someone gets sick, it is important to send them home to self-quarantine and get tested. If one of your employees does test positive, it is important that you do not share their personal information with the office without their permission. Be sure to tell your staff that it is possible they have been exposed to the virus, but do not reveal the name of the sick employee without their explicit permission, or you could find yourself in violation of certain laws.
