Activities at the Lake This Spring
With the need to avoid crowds and many events being cancelled, it can be hard to find fun and creative things to do each day. Lake West Chamber knows the Lake of the Ozarks area, and we have some wonderful suggestions to help you decide. Break the routine and try something new with one of these great, safe activities below!
Hiking at Ha Ha Tonka
Ha Ha Tonka is a beautiful and historic site
that sits atop a large bluff overlooking the Lake of the Ozarks. The state park
that bears its name - Ha Ha Tonka State Park - is on the Niangua Arm of the
Lake about five miles away from Camdenton. This state park covers 3,600 acres
of land and boasts 12 hiking trails that you and the family can enjoy!
The castle was originally constructed to
become a large and stately destination that would attract visitors far and
wide. After it was burned in a fire, the State of Missouri purchased the ruins
and the land in 1978. It was made into a unique, beautiful state park for all
to visit and enjoy.
Go for a Picnic
Grab a picnic basket, or even a simple lunch
box, and pack it with your favorite afternoon treat. Whether you choose ham and
cheese sandwiches, or a more elaborate meal with sides and a paired drink, taking
a picnic is all about spending time together. Instead of fretting about where
you are going to eat out, you can enjoy a simpler afternoon and get back to
basics.
Enjoy the Water
If you live in a lakefront home, you have a
tremendous source of entertainment in your own backyard! Grab the fishing
poles, head out to the dock, and have a fishing competition with the family.
Take the boat out on the water to get away from the house and enjoy some fresh
air.
If you aren’t located lakeside, don’t worry.
You can still enjoy life on the Lake by visiting one of the state parks or
public fishing areas. You can also rent a boat from one of the many boat rental
locations that has already opened for the season.
Try a New Recipe
For rainy days, you can still find a way to
make the time at home feel fresh and interesting. Choose a new cuisine and try
out a recipe you’ve never made. You could even host your own cooking challenge
with your family members! Try a mini version of the popular show Chopped by
giving your family members random items from the pantry and challenging them to
make a delicious dish from the ingredients. The “chef” that creates the best
dish wins an extra scoop of ice cream for dessert.
Have a Movie Night
Movie theaters may not be an option, but you
can always have a movie night in your own home! Choose the family’s favorite
movie and make it special by preparing bowls of popcorn and other fun snacks
for the viewing. You could even make a couch fort and all dress in your PJs for
the event.
