6th Annual Veterans Day Parade

November 9th, 2019 floats will line Osage Beach Parkway. Floats will start to line up at noon and the parade route will start at 1:00 pm.

The parade route will start at Osage Beach City Hall located at 1000 City Pkwy. in Osage Beach. The route will end at Lake of the Ozarks Elks Lodge #2517, 5161 Osage Beach Pkwy. in Osage Beach.

Come out and support your local Veterans!

The 6th Annual Veterans Day Parade will include the Lake of the Ozarks Car Club, the Fun Runners Car Club, and the Lake of the Ozarks Corvette Club along with many other local businesses and veterans from around the Lake Area.

No need to feed the kids before the parade, there will be free hot dogs and chili for everyone who attends the parade. Plus, I’m sure they will go home with a bag full of candy from all the floats.

The annual Veterans Parade is sponsored by Osage Beach and the Elks Lodge #2517.

If you have questions regarding the parade or would like to enter a float contact Fred Catcott at 573-552-2901 or emailing him at catcottf@onemain.com.

Veterans Day Facts

Veterans Day is observed every year on November 11th. The first Veterans Day was on November 11th, 1919 as “Armistice Day”. This was on the first anniversary of the end of World War 1. In 1926 Congress passed a resolution for an annual observance. November 11th became a national holiday in 1938. The day was to pay honor to all Veterans whether they are living or dead.

President Dwight Eisenhower changed the name officially to Veterans Day from Armistice Day in 1954. Congress passed Uniform Holidays Bill in 1968 changing the holiday to the 4th Monday in October and the law went into effect in 1071. However, while President Gerald Ford was in office he changed the holiday back to November 11th since the date was so important in our history.
Arlington National Cemetery holds a memorial service every year on Veterans Day and Memorial Day to honor the memory of those who served in the military.
Alaska, Maine, and Montana boasts the highest number of Veterans as of 2017. Over the years women have found their place in the military, with about 9% of Veterans in the US being women.

The staff at the Lake West Chamber hopes to see everyone out at the 6th Annual Veterans Day Parade this Saturday. Join us in honoring those who have served and those who are still serving today to give us freedom in the United States of America. Don’t forget to bring a bag for the kids to collect all the candy from the floats.
