3 Ways the Chamber Can Help a Struggling Business

The Lake West Chamber focuses on helping local business members grow their businesses, creating local events, and tourism on the westside of the Lake of the Ozarks. Representing the cities of Laurie, Sunrise Beach, Gravois Mills, and the Greenview area. Our goal is to enhance the business climate and quality of life at the Lake of the Ozarks. When a business is struggling often, they don’t know where to turn. This week’s blog explains 3 ways the chamber can help during these difficult times.

1. Get to Know Your Chamber Staff

When a new member joins a Chamber of Commerce, the chamber staff needs to get to know the new member.  As a new member allow yourself to open up to the chamber staff.  Tell the staff the goals of your business, your target audience, and your mission statement. Tell them your struggles and your wins. This will allow the chamber to get to know you and your business. The staff is a team of professionals that can give you great advice and ideas. By allowing them to get to know you they can direct you in the best way possible to help with your struggles. They can recommend programs that you can join, introduce you to the right people, and invite you to network socials throughout the community.

2. Introduce You to a Successful Business Owner in the Community

When a business owner is struggling a great way to boost their confidence and give the new ideas is to introduce them to a long-time successful business owner in the community.  It is great for the chamber to have a list of chamber members who are interested in sitting down and speaking with someone who is struggling.  Most people are more than willing to help when needed especially in small communities. Owners that have been successful in the community has seen some hard times and figured out a way to work through the times to continue. Their knowledge and experience are invaluable to someone who is currently struggling.

3. Give the New Member a Larger Platform

The local chamber of commerce is well known and respected throughout the community. The chamber staff members have many contacts throughout the community that they connect you with. A chamber can help promote a struggling business by sharing some of their posts promoting products on social media. Usually, the chamber has a large following on all their social media platforms. The chamber can even write a post highlighting the business and the history of how the business started. Another way a chamber can help promote you is by handing out promotional items that you have at the visitor’s center. The chamber promotes its members to anyone who comes into the chamber or calls asking for referrals.
