History of the Jacob’s Cave Swap Meet
The first small animal swap was held at Jacob’s Cave in June of 1979. Over the years, this small animal swap has grown to become the largest swap meet in the Midwest. Each event boasts attendance of over 30,000 people. Now, not only are there small animals for sale or for trade, but there is buying, selling, and trading of all types of new and used items – think of the swap meet as a small animal sale, but also a giant outdoor flea market. Swapping days at Jacob’s Cave are held three times a year now, as the popularity has grown so much in the past 36 years.Jacob’s Cave reports that “in 1994, the first night lights and electrical outlets were added for booth rental spaces to accommodate concessionaires and vendors.” At the swap meet now, you can find good food to buy and plenty of fun things to look at.
